Million Dollar Challenge to Continue

The James Randi Educational Foundation today announced that the Million Dollar Challenge is not to be cancelled after all. The cancellation was announced last year with a wrap-up date of March 2010. Obviously they've had a change of heart which is great news - the challenge certainly provides a wealth of entertaining discussion material.

Since 1998 the Million Dollar Challenge has been available to anyone who can provide hard evidence of paranormal phenomena or abilities, under mutually-agreed controlled conditions. So far the challenge has not been met.

  1. I wouldn't trust James Randi in his million dollar challenge. He is the Judge and Jury for that and gets to determine whether or not in his opinion if it's legit. On top of that, he strikes me as the type of person to continually add conditions to the test until the person can no-longer perform under his conditions, at which point, he would declare them as Fraud, and his challenge and reputation remain intact. But that is just my opinion :)

  2. That's not actually true. It's well documented that James Randi has absolutely nothing to do with the judging. The contest terms are very clear - all conditions must be agreed to by both parties before any testing begins, and under no circumstances can any conditions be changed once testing is underway. If anything, from the tests I've seen there's a pretty clear pattern of applicants trying to change the conditions after they've failed.
